GT Executive Round Table-Apply

Executive Round Table (ERT) is a professional forum where select Georgia Tech students, faculty, and industry members from the Southeast come together in a setting of open discussion. At ERT’s monthly dinner meetings, prominent guest speakers present to the members on a variety of topics pertinent to the business and social arenas. Each presentation concludes with a relevant challenge being posed to the ERT members who collaborate in a “round table” format on proposals to share with the group.

Executive Round Table is an elite group with a high caliber membership and rich history at Georgia Tech. ERT is unique among GT’s student organizations in its meritocratic structure of open engagement and equality of contribution between students, faculty, and industry members. These members come from diverse walks of life and seek intellectual challenge, professional development, and networking with other driven individuals. In the spring, ERT members travel to a resort location near Atlanta for a weekend conference which provides an in-depth development of a central theme. This conference represents ERT’s capstone program, and the experience is a journey of personal growth and camaraderie for attendees.

Applications are due by 5:00 PM on Friday, October 2nd. Interested students may apply online at www.gtert.orgAdditional information about ERT and membership requirements are available on our website, and please feel free to contact Kaitlyn Frazier at vp.student@gtert.org if you have any further questions.

Midterm U Reports/Drop Date

Midterm Progress Reports

First of all, if you haven’t already done it, go into OSCAR to check your midterm grades.  You may do so by clicking on Student Records.  If you are taking a 1000 or 2000 level class, you should have received an S for Satisfactory or a U for unsatisfactory.  If you have 2 or more U’s, meet with your Advisor. Let’s see what we can do to address it now as we genuinely care about seeing you succeed.

Grade Substitutions
For entering freshmen (and continuing sophomores), just another reminder about the opportunity to make a grade substitution on any D or F earned in the first two semesters of your attendance at GT (first three semesters, if you came in the Freshmen Summer program).  You have the chance to get two of your D’s or F’s expunged if you fill out the forms, get them signed by me and the Dean of Students, and retake the class by your 4th semester (or 5th for Freshman Summer students) for a better grade.  (These D’s or F’s will still appear on your transcript, but they won’t be counted in your GPA.)  There is no reason for you not to take advantage of this!!!  Please note, the due date for applying for grade substitution is Friday, February 27th.  You can find out more about grade substitution and download the form here: http://www.catalog.gatech.edu/rules/5c.php. Board of Education, with deeds, not just words. The aim was simple: expose a new generation of highly motivated and gifted college upperclassmen and graduate students to the importance of improving education for all, especially low-income people who need help the most.  By placing students to serve as interns in leading Southern foundations and non-profit organizations concerned with fairness and improvements in education policy and practice, SEF sought to create new leaders to help the South continue its progress in improving education opportunity.

PLANNING YOUR FALL 2009 FULBRIGHT APPLICATION– for 2010-2011 grants
The campus deadline for Fulbright applications is not until September 18, 2009, but Georgia Tech students need to begin planning now about what country to consider, what research to do if appropriate, what graduate study might be done, and whether or not an English Teaching Assistantship is of interest.
For some awards, a letter of invitation from a host country is required. In some parts of the world (not all) language proficiency is necessary. Preparing for a Fulbright application is a process best done with adequate time.

All undergraduate and first-year graduate students are encouraged to come to this presentation to learn about the Fulbright program, its application process, and how to prepare now for a future application.

Tyler Coon (IAML) was featured in the newspaper Creative Loafing’s College Guide. He gave the paper a “Day in the Life” story, including his work at Georgia Tech and his favorite nighttime spots in Atlanta.

Along with students from universities across Georgia and, more specifically, Atlanta, Tyler helped showcase “the anatomy” of our city and what the magazine “dissected”:

“In the head, we found academic resources; in the ears, music; in the arms and legs, clubs and nightlife; in the heart, volunteer opportunities; in the hands, arts and extracurricular activities; in the stomach, restaurants and coffee shops; in the naughty bits, health and sex ed; and in the feet, exploration.”

Kudos to Tyler for representing Georgia Tech and the Ivan Allen College!!

INTA has instituted a new Change of Major policy effective immediately.
Change of Major forms will NOT be processed during Registration. This is for students leaving for another major, as well as for students changing into INTA/IAML/EIA. The advisors will not sign any Change of Major forms during Registration.
Please note that this policy is also in effect for Modern Languages. Dr. David Shook will not sign Change of Major forms during Registration. If you are considering a major change, please plan accordingly.

Good luck, students!

From the Division of Professional Practice at Tech:

We want to put your work photos on our website! We’re looking for photos of interns at work – at their desk, with coworkers, with projects, with customers, in the field, in the plant, in the lab! Be as creative as you want. This is a great chance to show other students what you’re doing this summer.

Submit photos to Ann Blasick to be entered in our Intern Photo Contest and for possible use on our website. The winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded at the Intern Welcome Back Event on Monday, August 25 from 5-7PM in the Student Success Center.

Stay tuned for an invitation to this event!

Congratulations to Nick Wellkamp (PUBP major) and Aaron Fowler (PUBP MS major) for being elected Undergraduate and Graduate President of the Student Government Association 2008-2009!
